Mumbai: Bollywood actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar is all set to join the Shiv Sena on Monday.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has picked her up for nomination to the State Legislative Council with Maharashtra’s ruling alliance of Maha Vikas Aghadi set to recommend the 46-year-old actor’s name along with 11 others to the Governor, The Indian Express reported.
The development comes over a year after Urmila resigned from the primary membership of the Congress, citing petty politics as the reason.
The ‘Rangeela’ actor had said the thought of resignation came to her after no action was taken regarding a letter in which she criticised close aides of senior party leader Sanjay Nirupam, , India Today reported.
In her statement, Urmila had said, “My political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use me as a means to fight petty in-house politics instead of working on a bigger goal in Mumbai Congress.”
The actor had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket from Mumbai and resigned from the party five months later.
