Mumbai: After singer Armaan Malik, it was actor-politician Kangana Ranaut who trained guns at Bollywood, accusing it of crossing all limits of vulgarity with the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’.

The song from the Kannada film ‘KD: The Devil’, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, triggered widespread backlash for its suggestive lyrics and choreography.

“Bollywood has crossed all limits with vulgarity, tactics, and attention-seeking. The entire country is condemning and reprimanding them. But I don’t think they have any shame. There needs to be even more strictness about the display of such vulgarity and obscenity…I think some strict rein will have to be put on Bollywood,” Kangana was quoted as saying by ANI.

On Monday, Armaan called out the song’s lyrics, saying he wished he could unhear them.

Meanwhile, advocate Vineet Jindal filed a formal complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, seeking immediate ban and removal of the song from social media platforms.

The complainant alleged that the song contains “highly vulgar, sexually suggestive, and obscene expressions” and is inappropriate for public consumption, especially for minors.

A separate criminal complaint has also been filed with Delhi Police Cyber Cell regarding the song.

The song was released on Monday in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada by Anand Audio.

Following the complaint, the Hindi version of the song has been removed from YouTube. However, the promo of the Hindi version, which does not contain the full lyrics, is still available on the platform.

When lyricist Raqueeb Alam was approached over vulgar lyrics of the song, he denied writing the lyrics on his own.

“Yeh lyrics maine nahi likhe hain (I have not written these lyrics), they were written by the film’s director Prem in Kannada. When I was asked to write all this, I refused, saying such songs won’t work, and will be censored too. They told me to only literally translate the Kannada version and give it to them, they will set it to the song’s meter. Words like ‘Choosega’, ‘chaatega’ are all there in the original version only,” Raqueeb was quoted as saying by HT.

Admitting the lyrics has double meaning, he added, “Last mein jaake batate hain that the entire song is about an alcohol bottle. Lekin usse pehle sab kuchh itna ganda hai. Maine mana kiya tha. Mujhe kya zaroorat hai aise gaane likhne ki? When I write good songs, people don’t notice. I have written Chikri Chikri in Hindi for Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi. All the songs of Pushpa in Hindi were written by me. I am feeling humiliated myself because of Sarke Chunar.”

“They called me on Monday night, and requested me to write a fresh version with clean lyrics. I sent it to them on Tuesday morning, it was being recorded the same day. They are planning to release the song on Tuesday evening along with an apology note.”
