Cuttack: People celebrating Zero Night to ring in 2026 were stunned by a bomb attack on a house at Talabasta village in Banki area of Odisha’s Cuttack district.
As per information, unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb at the residential building of Chintamani Behera causing extensive damage to the property.
The residents of the house had a lucky escape with no fatalities or injuries. Police have launched an investigation and security has been enhanced in the area following the incident
Sources said villagers of Talabasta were enjoying the New Year’s Eve festivities when they heard a loud sound of the blast. Festive spirit turned to panic as they rushed to the house of Behera.
The explosion shattered walls, doors, windows as well as household items such as furniture. None of the family staying in the building sustained harm during the attack.
Locals said the attack could have stemmed from previous enmity.
On being informed, Banki Police immediately rushed to the village and began a probe. Police have assured the miscreants will be identified and apprehended. Security has been tightened in the locality after the incident. The criminals seem to have taken advantage of people being either engaged in celebrations or fast asleep at midnight to carry out the bombardment, which has terrorised the residents of the Banki village.
Gripped by fear, angry villagers have demanded swift action against the attackers.
