Bomb Threat Near US Capitol
Washington: The US Capitol Police on Thursday launched an “an active bomb threat investigation” after finding a suspicious vehicle near the Library of Congress. The entire area has been evacuated.
Alerting the media on duty, police said: “The staging area for journalists covering this situation is at Constitution and First Street, NW for your safety. Please continue to avoid the area around the Library of Congress.”
The Library of Congress is an important location which serves as official library for the United States Congress.
The incident comes six days after the US department of homeland security issued a terrorism threat advisory due to “heightened threat environment” ahead of the September 11 terror attacks’ 20th anniversary.
In a bulletin, National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) had said that the US continues to face a “diverse and challenging” threat environment.
