New Delhi: There were fresh calls to boycott Cadbury on Sunday.
Social media users targeted a recent Diwali advertisement of the company, while others piled on to bring up the ‘beef’ issue which had dogged Cadbury last year too.
It was VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi who shared the Cadbury advertisement on Twitter and objected to the use of ‘Damodar’. She claimed that a poor lamp seller named Damodar has been shown to portray someone with the name of PM Narendra Modi’s father in poor light.
“Have you carefully observed Cadbury chocolate’s advertisement on TV channels? The shopless poor lamp seller is Damodar. This is done to show someone with PM Narendra Modi’s father’s name in poor light. Chaiwale ka baap diyewala. Shame on Cadbury company,” Prachi wrote.
That led to a flood of protests on Twitter, with many calling for the boycott of Cadbury products in India.
Last year, Cadbury faced the wrath of Indian Twitter users for reported use of beef in their products. As a similar boycott call gained ground, the company was forced to issue a clarification.
“All the products manufactured and sold in India are 100% vegetarian. The green dot on the wrapper signifies that,” Cadbury had stated.
