New Delhi: A 21-member delegation of Opposition MPs of INDIA Alliance parties, who are on two-day visit to Manipur, submitted a memorandum to governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Sunday, claiming that the condition of relief camps “is pathetic – to say the least”.

The delegation had visited relief camps at Churachandpur, Moirang, and Imphal, and interacted with the victims/inmates there. “…400-500 people are staying in one hall. The State Govt is providing them only daal-chawal, children are not getting anything else to eat the entire day. There is no toilet or bathroom facility. The manner in which people are living in camps is very heart-rending..,” Congress MP Phulodevi Netam said, adding that special care needs to be taken for children on a priority basis.

They also questioned the need for running relief camps amid government’s claims that the state was peaceful as reported by Indian Express.

While requesting the governor to restore peace and harmony taking all effective measures, the delegation said: “In order to bring peace and harmony, rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected persons is most urgent. You are also requested to apprise the Union Government of the complete breakdown of law and order in Manipur for the last 89 days so as to enable them to intervene in the precarious situation in Manipur to restore peace and normalcy.”

It further said that the failure of both the Central and state government to protect the lives and properties of the people of the two communities is apparent from the figures of more than 140 deaths, more than 500 injuries, burning of more than 5,000 houses and internal displacement of more than 60,000 people. “From the reports of incessant firing and arson of houses in the last few days, it is established beyond doubt that the state machinery has completely failed to control the situation for the last almost three months,” they claimed in the memorandum.

“Silence of Hon’ble Prime Minister shows his brazen indifference to the violence in Manipur,” it added.

Senior Congress leader Jairan Ramesh also shared the memorandum on his official Twitter handle. Check here:

The anger, anxiety, anguish, pain and sorrow of the people of Manipur seem to make absolutely no difference to the Prime Minister. While he is busy listening to his own voice and forcing down his ‘Mann ki Baat’ on crores of Indians, the 21 MP delegation of Team INDIA is talking… pic.twitter.com/vE0WkheCet

After the meeting, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury asserted that the Manipur ethnic conflict can lead to security problems in the country if is not resolved soon. “The governor heard our observations and agreed to those. She expressed sorrow over the incidents of violence and suggested that an all-party delegation should visit Manipur to talk to people to remove mistrust among communities,” he added.
