Bhubaneswar: An Air Quality Digital Display was inaugurated at the Regional Science Centre in the city on Wednesday, coinciding with the 43rd foundation day of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and the Centre’s 38th anniversary.
The facility, developed under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), was launched by Dr Manoj V Nair, member secretary of OSPCB, in the presence of senior scientists, dignitaries and officials from the Pollution Control Board.
The digital display provides real‑time information on key air‑quality indicators, including the Air Quality Index (AQI), PM2.5 and PM10 levels. It also presents selected weather parameters such as wind velocity and temperature, offering visitors a clear and accessible snapshot of prevailing environmental conditions.
Designed as an educational tool, the installation aims to raise public awareness about air pollution and its impact on everyday life. It is expected to benefit students and young learners in particular, by linking scientific data with practical understanding of environmental issues.
Speaking at the launch, head of the Regional Science Centre, Kapil Jain, said, “The Air Quality Display System marks an important step towards strengthening public awareness and scientific understanding of air quality among our visitors, especially students and young learners.”
Jain added that the new facility will be integrated into awareness programmes, demonstrations and outreach activities, encouraging citizens to contribute to a cleaner, sustainable future.
