Bribery Case: Former Odisha Headmistress Sentenced To 3 Years In Jail

Bhubaneswar: Special Judge (Vigilance), Bhubaneswar, on Monday convicted Basanti Devi, former headmistress of UGUP School at Bada Nuagaon in Odisha’s Khurda district, in a bribery case.

She has been to serve 3-year jail term under Section  13(2) of Prevention of Corruption (PA) Act, 1988. The court also sentenced her to two years of  rigorous imprisonment under Section 7 of the Act. Both the sentences will run concurrently.

The former headmistress was found guilty of demanding and accepting bribe from president of an SHG for preparing the bill and submitting the same to the block authorities for supply of materials for midday meals programme in the school and withdrawal of the payment.

Following her conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority to stop her pension, an official release said.
