Bride’s Mother Hacked To Death During Dispute Over Marriage Procession In Odisha’s Bargarh
Bargarh: The mother of a bride was hacked to death while groom was coming in procession for marriage in a village of Bargarh district late Thursday night.
According to sources, the marriage of Rashmi Rajhans, daughter of Dadumani Rajhans and Kishori Rajhans was scheduled to be solemnised at their Salepali village under Melchhamunda police limits. The baraat arrived at the village at around midnight and the went in a procession to the bride’s house amid blaring music and bursting of crackers.
Some relatives and friends of the groom, who had come with the baraati, were dancing to the tune of music in joy. In excitement of the dance, they pushed some villagers, who were watching the procession, by mistake. But the villagers took objection to it and an argument ensued.
As argument escalated to heated exchange of words, bride’s mother Kishori rushed to the spot and tried to pacify both villagers and members of baraati. Agitated over interference of Kishori, the villagers attacked her. Two villagers, identified as Sumant and Subodh, arrived there with sharp weapons and hacked Kishori to death.
Kishori’s family members rushed her to district headquarters hospital in Bargarh where she was declared brought dead. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case. But nobody has been arrested in connection with the murder while Sumant and Subodh are absconding.
