Brown Sugar Worth Over Rs 1 Cr Seized, 2 Arrested From Rly Station In Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: Special Task Force (STF) has seized brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore and arrested 2 persons in this connection from railway station of Odisha’s Balasore.

Following intelligance report about peddling of drugs, a team of STF Bhubaneswar and personnel from Sahadevkhunta police station conducted a raid on a place near the railway station and nabbed the two persons on MOnday. The apprehended persons were identified as Sk Raju and Amzad Khan from Sahadevkhunta.

The team seized 1.6 kg brown sugar, a motorcycle and other incriminating materials from the possession of the accused. As Raju and Amzad could not produce any document for possession of the contraband, they were arrested and forwarded to the court. The value of seized brown sugar would be more than Rs 1 crore, sources said.

The STF has registered a case under NDPS Act 1985 in this connection and further investigation is on.

It may be noted that the STF has seized more than 60 kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 gram cocaine, 111 quintal of ganja and 750 gm opium during its special drive since 2020. More than 162 drug dealers and peddlers have also been arrested during the period.
