Puri: Police have seized brown sugar worth more than Rs 35 lakh and arrested 4 persons in this connection in the town on Thursday.
Following reliable information about sale of brown sugar, a team from Baseli Sahi police station conducted a raid on a place near Kalyan Mandap in Mangalaghat on sewerage treatment plant road and nabbed 4 persons while peddling the drugs.
The police seized 255 gram of brown sugar from their possession. The value of the seized contraband was estimated to be more than Rs 35 lakh. Four mobile phones, a car, three two-wheelers and Rs 2100 in cash were also seized from them.
The arrested persons were identified as two brothers Raja Singh and Chandan Singh of Jagannath Sahi, Gudu Nayak of Markandeswar Sahi and Amulya Kumar Swain of Sapanpur village in Jajpur district.
Additional SP of Puri Mihir Kumar Panda said the arrested persons have been forwarded to court. Around 1.61 kg of brown sugar have been seized and 30 persons arrested from the Pilgrim Town since January, he added.
