Brown Sugar Worth Rs 15 Lakh Seized In Balasore, 2 Arrested
Balasore: Jaleswar Excise Department Officials seized brown sugar worth of Rs 15 lakh and arrested two persons including a woman from Chalanti Square in Balasore on Thursday.
The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Nagma Bibi of Binjharpur area in Jajpur and Praful Patra of Jajpur Road.
According to sources, acting on a tip-off, the Excise team conducted a raid at Chalanti square near NH-16 and seized 150 grams of contraband, one car and other incriminating material from the possession of the arrested persons.
A case has been registered against the duo under Sections 21 (C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The arrested persons will be forwarded to the court soon, said the sources.
Notably, Balasore district has become a hub of narcotic substance, as brown sugar worth around Rs 2.40 crore was sized at Jaleswar Market recently.
The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch nabbed three drug peddlers during a raid and seized 2.402 kg brown sugar on August 16.
