BS4 Vehicles Sold After March 31 Won’t Be Allowed To Be Registered: SC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that no BS4 vehicles will be allowed to be registered if sold after March 31, 2020.

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra recalled its earlier order allowing 10 per cent of of BS-4 vehicles inventory for 10 days, post COVID-19 lockdown.

“Please do not take advantage of this court by playing fraud. You have told us no sales have taken place. You are understating your values,” Justice Mishra said.

He added that no vehicle could be registered without their order. “You have sold more than allowed,” the court noted.

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) appealed to the court asking for permission to allow registration of vehicles sold in March. To which, the bench asked how these vehicles were sold during the lockdown.

“It would be violation of the spirit of the court order if we allow sales after opening of lockdown,” the Apex Court said.

India switched to BS6 emission standards on April 1, 2020, and banned the sale of older BS4 vehicles.
