Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday announced that the new fuel standard Bharat Stage (BS) VI will be made available throughout the country from April 1, 2020.
The Minister also said that this will reduce air pollution by 80-90 per cent.
The major difference in BS4 and BS6 fuel is the presence of sulphur content that results in lower particulate matter emissions.
The Supreme Court in 2018 had ruled that no BS4 vehicle will be sold in the country post April 1, 2020.
