BSCL Launches Drive To Make Bhubaneswar Free Of Overhead Cables
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to improve the looks of the roads and ensure better digital services, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd (BSCL) has launched a drive to remove the overhead cables in the city.
According to sources, the BSCL had issued notice to the private cable operators to remove their overhead cables. As the operators failed to comply with the notice within the deadline, the BSCL launched the drive to cut down the cables from the poles along the roads in the city.
Of more than 1,000 km overhead cables in city, around 300-km cables have already been removed during the drive so far and the rest would be cleared soon, the sources said.
The BSCL has already laid its underground optical fibre cable for 680 km and plans to cover the entire city soon.
“All the cable operators were given enough time to remove their overhead cables and lay underground cables. Since they did not comply with it, the Smart City launched the drive,” a local channel quoted Sanjay Kumar Singh, CEO, BSCL as saying.
He further said now no private operator will be allowed to lay underground cable. It has been made mandatory for them to use the BSCL cable network.
Besides improving the overall looks of the city roads, the high-speed fibre cables of the BSCL will provide better service to the consumers, he added.
