BSF Jawan Held For Murder Of Dhenkanal Jeweller
Dhenkanal: The Town Police on Saturday arrested the prime accused in the sensational murder of a jeweller on September 3.
The accused was identified as Sanjay Kumar, a BSF jawan posted on the Nepal-Assam border. He was nabbed from Dibrugarh in Assam.
Talking to mediapersons, Dhenkanal SP Harekrushna Pradhan said the accused through Facebook started an affair with Aruna Patra, wife of Mantu Patra, a native of Medinipur in West Bengal who had a jewellery business in Dhenkanal town.
As intimacy between the two grew, Aruna told Sanjay that she will marry him if he kills her husband. Later, she fixed a date and called him up.
“According to the plan, Sanjay arrived in Dhenkanal on September 3. Meanwhile, Aruna served the breakfast mixing it with poison to her husband. When he became unconscious, she called Sanjay who arrived at the rented house at Meena Bazar and killed Mantu by slitting his throat with a knife. Soon after committing the crime, he fled the area,” the SP said.
Though Aruna later lodged a complaint, the police, in course of an investigation, found her complicity in the murder. She also confessed to her crime during interrogation and was arrested on October 4.
“On the basis of the information provided by Aruna, police later launched a manhunt and nabbed Sanjay after tracking his mobile phone and getting details from his Facebook account,” the SP added.
