Budding Actor-Director Killed After Fellow-Actor’s Car Hits His Bike

Chennai: Budding director and actor Saran Raj was killed in a road accident near KK Nagar here on Thursday night.

Saran, who was the assistant director of multiple National Award-winning director Vetrimaaran, met with the fatal accident when he was travelling through Arcot Road at 11.30 pm.

Just 29 years of age, Saran’s bike was reportedly hit by fellow-actor Palaniappan’s car. Supporting actor Palaniappan was under the influence of alcohol when he rammed into Saran’s bike.

Saran suffered multiple injuries and died on the spot.

Residents around the area of the accident informed police, who later filed an FIR against Palaniappan, who has been arrested.

Saran’s mortal remains have been sent for post-mortem, as investigations have begun.

The sudden demise of Saran sent the film industry into a state of awe and shock.

Saran was one of Vetrimaaran’s assistant directors in his blockbuster film ‘Vada Chennai’. Saran also played supporting roles in ‘Vada Chennai’ and ‘Asuran’.

Besides ‘Vada Chennai’, Vetrimaaran — one of the most acclaimed filmmakers from the South — is known for films like ‘Polladhavan’, ‘Aadukulam’ and ‘Asuran’.

His next project ‘Vaadivaasal’, with Suriya, is reported to be one of the biggest movies in the South, based on Jallikattu.
