Bhubaneswar: A builder was allegedly beaten to death in Sundarpada area under the Airfield police station limits of Bhubaneswar over land dispute on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Sasmit Biswal of Bhimpur locality in Airfield police station limits, was suspected to have been murdered over a dispute related to property.
Sources said Sasmit owned a piece of land near Pradhan Sahi in Botanda of Jamukoli area. However, there was some dispute between Sasmit and some local people over possession of the land.
Sasmit had gone to the disputed land but did not return home even after several hours. His body was later recovered under mysterious circumstances from a field in Bhimpur. His two-wheeler was also found near the body.
On being informed, a team from the Airfield police station started an investigation into the incident and sent Sasmit’s body to the Capital Hospital for postmortem.
A case has been registered vide Airfield PS case number 105 Dt. 11.04.25 U/s- 103(1)/103(2)/61(2) BNS base on the complaint of Debadutta Mohanty, brother of deceased Sasmit Biswal.
In the complaint, he has named a total of 7 accused persons. Police have detained three persons for interrogation in connection with the incident.
Police said that the prima facia revealed that land dispute with the previous partner is the motive of the murder. Both deceased Sasmit Biswal and FIR named accused Tulu Mohanty of Padhansahi were partner in Land dealing in Padhansahi mouza areas. Subsequently, there was land dispute in between deceased and Tulu Mohanty. This led to this incident.
