Kota: A burglary attempt at Kota, Rajasthan, went horribly wrong for the thief after he got stuck in the exhaust shaft of the house he was trying to enter.

It is not known for how long the man remained stuck in the hole, but it took the police nearly an hour to extract him.

The video of the rescue has now gone viral on social media, spreading mirth among users.

The incident took place at the residence of Subhash Kumar Rawat, who was away for darshan of Khatu Shyam Ji on January 3, as reported by NewsX.

Rawat’s wife returned home around 1 am the next day and unlocked the main gate. The exterior wall of the kitchen was suddenly illuminated by the headlights of a passing vehicle and she was shocked to see a man’s legs dangling from the exhaust fan shaft.

The man’s mid-section had apparently got wedges in the hole. While his head and shoulders were inside the kitchen, the lower portion of his body remained outside.

The woman immediately raised an alarm and locals started gathering. An accomplice of the thief, who was waiting in a car, fled on realising that the game was up.

The police suspect that the thief’s aim was to get at valuables inside the house by getting in through the kitchen. Once he had burgled the house, he could have unlocked a door and escaped.

An official said that the woman was lucky. The thief had not expected anybody from the family to return at that time. Had he made it through the hole and been caught in the act by the woman, he may have caused her harm in a bid to escape.

Sources said the accused had reached the house in a car with a police sticker. Officials suspect that one of the two may be the driver of a hired vehicle used by the police.

Efforts are on to trace the accomplice and find out if the two were involved other thefts in the area.
