Baripada: Unidentified miscreants looted gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from a shop located at Baripada town in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Police said the robbery took place at Mahapatra Jewellers at Takatpur Chhak in Baripada on Friday night. Thieves broke into the shop and looted valuables late at night.
The incident came to light on Saturday when the shop was found ransacked. Gold and silver ornaments worth several lakhs were stolen. The miscreants allegedly disabled security gadgets which had CCTV cameras, broke the lock and decamped with the valuables.
A team from Bhanjpur police station visited the site and launched a probe into the incident, examining CCTV footage and questioning suspects.
The incident has sparked concern among traders and residents over rising crime in Baripada. Reports suggest CCTV cameras may have been tampered with, raising questions about security of goods after traders shut shop.
Authorities have assured intensified patrolling and investigation to nab the culprits. An investigation is ongoing to trace the missing jewellery and arrest the robbers.
