Bhubaneswar: Amidst the protests over rising fuel prices burdening the common man, bus fares in Odisha have been hiked under the automatic fare adjustment mechanism.
The price hike is effective from today across all categories, said Debendra Sahoo, general secretary All Odisha Bus Owners’ Association (AOBOA).
As per the notification by State Transport Authority (STA), the fares for ordinary buses were increased by 4 paise to 89 paise per km and for express buses it is 93 paise per km.
Similarly, travellers will have to pay 8 paise more for deluxe and AC deluxe buses whose fares have been increased to 129 paise per km and 157 paise per km respectively.
The price for super premium buses has been hiked to Rs 2.44 per km from Rs 2.32 per km.
It may be mentioned here that diesel prices have crossed the Rs 100 in a few places of Odisha.
