CAA Protests: 65 NCC Cadets From Odisha Stranded In Guwahati
Bhubaneswar: As many as 65 cadets of the 2nd NCC Battalion in Berhampur are stranded in Guwahati in Assam due to the massive protests in that state against the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA).
The NCC team had left Berhampur on December 9 and arrived in Guwahati on December 11 ahead of a tracking camp, the chief operating officer (COO), Trekking Team, Gopal Mishra, informed the media on Wednesday.
Mishra said the team was scheduled to join the North Eastern Region Trekking Camp at Shillong, Meghalaya from December 11 to 18. However, the team was stranded at Guwahati railway station due to the curfew in the city.
Later, the cadets were taken to the Army Transit Camp. After remaining at the camp for two days, the cadets were taken to the Pre-NCC RDC camp at Narangi, about 15 km from Guwahati, on December 14.
“Though the return tickets of the team were booked for December 19, the possibility of the cadets returning by train is remote due to the ongoing agitation in Assam,” Mishra said.
He, however, added that efforts are on to facilitate the team’s return to Berhampur very soon.
