Chandigarh: A Canadian truck driver has been formally accused of trying to bring a large consignment of cocaine and heroin into British Columbia from the United States, nearly a year after border officials stopped his vehicle at a busy land crossing.
According to the RCMP’s Federal Policing Pacific Region, Canada Border Services Agency personnel conducted an inspection of a commercial truck and trailer at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon Port of Entry on October 22, 2025. During the examination, officers allegedly discovered 52 brick-like parcels believed to contain illegal narcotics hidden within two duffel bags.
The driver was identified as Khushwinder Singh Gill, 47, a Canadian resident. Authorities allege he was attempting to enter Canada with the suspected controlled substances when the seizure took place, as reported by The New Indian Express.
Charges Approved
Following the interception, Gill was taken into custody by the RCMP’s Drugs and Organized Crime Group 6 under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Investigators then carried out a probe, culminating in the approval of four charges in BC Provincial Court on October 19, 2026.
He now faces allegations of importing cocaine, possessing cocaine for trafficking, importing heroin, and possessing heroin for the purpose of trafficking.
Officials Respond
“Stopping illicit drugs at the border takes constant vigilance, and our border officers at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon Port of Entry delivered,” said David Lee, Director, Pacific Highway District, Canada Border Services Agency. “This significant seizure reflects the strong partnership between the CBSA and the RCMP. Together, we are helping protect communities in Canada from drug trafficking.”
Staff-Sgt. Eric Kimura of the RCMP FPPR Drugs and Organized Crime Unit added, “This investigation and its result demonstrate the positive impact of our coordinated efforts with the CBSA to stop the flow of drugs into Canada through our land borders.”
The case comes amid heightened scrutiny of drug smuggling along the Canada-US frontier. Earlier this month, the CBSA reported that its officers had seized close to 128 kg of cocaine from a truck entering Windsor through the Ambassador Bridge.
