Russian Drone Strike Kills 13 At Ukrainian Railway Station; Zelensky Calls For Strong Action Against Moscow

Russia drone attack on Ukraine station

Kyiv: At least 13 people were killed and 10 others wounded after a Russian drone struck a crowded railway platform in Ukraine’s Dnipro on Thursday.

The ‘horrific’ strike took place at Dnipro’s main railway station when passengers were preparing to board a train which was scheduled to leave for the nearby southern city of Zaporizhzhia, officials said.

Ukrainian Railways said in a post on Telegram that Russia launched the strike using a jet-powered drone.

“The enemy launched a strike using a jet-powered UAV against the railway station in Dnipro. The strike hit one of the platforms where train No. 866 (Dnipro-Zaporizhzhia) was located at the time,” the Railways stated.

The post also said that despite a warning of “elevated threat level”, there were several people at the platform.

Emergency teams rushed to the railway station following the strike for rescue operations.

“Many people were killed. Lots were injured,” Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov wrote about the attack on Telegram.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded international action after the “horrific” Russian attack on civilians.

“A horrific Russian strike on the railway station in Dnipro. The Russians launched a drone attack on a platform where an ordinary commuter train and a scheduled passenger train were standing. Unfortunately, 13 people have been confirmed killed as of now. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Ten more people were injured. All necessary emergency services are working at the scene,” Zelensky wrote on X and shared videos and pictures of the incident.

The Ukrainian President called on the US and Europe for decisive action “in response to Russian escalation – sanctions against Moscow and its war machine.”
