Canadian first lady Sophie Gregoire Trudeau announced on social media that she had recovered from COVID-19, and received the clearance from her doctor and Ottawa Public Health.
“I am feeling so much better,” Sophie said in a statement on Saturday. “From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you to everyone who reached out to me with their well wishes. And to everyone who is suffering right now, I send you all my love,” she added.
Sophie tested positive for the virus on March 12 shortly after her return from London.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family have since been in self-isolation at home. He has been working from home and will continue to do so as to set an example for fellow Canadians.
Gatherings of more than five people are banned in Ontario, Canada’s most populous province.
Canada, so far, has 5,886 confirmed cases with 63 deaths and 508 recoveries.
Globally, the number of confirmed cases crossed 7 lakh on Sunday with United States taking the lead with 131,403 cases. Italy, the worst affected in Europe, has seen 10,779 deaths – the highest in the world.
