Bhubaneswar: As per a report of the Union Health Ministry, Odisha tops in cancer deaths in the country.
This was revealed after the Ministry submitted its report in the Parliament in its ongoing budget session recently.
As per the report, at least 69 patients had died of cancer in Odisha every day in 2016.
Out of a total of 49,674 people identified as cancer patients in 2016, 25,035 had died.
In 2015, out of 47,666 cancer patients, 24,019 had died while in 2014, the killer disease had accounted for the death of 23,043 patients out of a total of 45,736 patients.
The Health Ministry in its report has also stated that concerned over the alarming rise in the number of cancer patients, the Odisha government has submitted a proposal to the Ministry for setting up of a cancer care centre in Kalahandi, Sambalpur and Berhampur.
Apart from this, the state government has also proposed construction of Cancer State Care Centre in Cuttack, the report added.
