Bhubaneswar: The cancer hospital coming up at Bargarh has been put on fast track on the initiative of chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
This was revealed at a review meeting of the project by chief secretary Asit Tripathy here on Friday. Additional chief secretary, Health & Family Welfare department Pradeepta Kumar Mohapatra outlined the issues for discussion.
According to a release on the meeting, the expert committee has already selected the site and outlined the clinical facilities to be available in the hospital. A bunker of 100 ft x 100 ft area will be constructed for radiotherapy unit. It is proposed to start with 50 beds.
The major facilities include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, CT simulator, HDR Brachytherapy, dosimetry, immobilization, histopathology laboratory, emergency care and day care chemotherapy.
Tripathy directed to equip the hospital properly with adequate doctor and paramedics. It was decided to place human resources like radiation oncologist, medical physicist, radiotherapy technician, emergency doctors, nurses, front office executives, pharmacist, chemo-nurses along with auxiliary personnel.
Director, National Health Mission Salini Pandit; Director, Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer, Cuttack Dr Lalatendu Sadangi; Director, Odisha Medical Corporation Yamini Sarangi; Director, Information & Public Relations Krupasindhu Mishra and senior doctors and officers from respective departments participated in the deliberations.
