Cancer Victim Makes Heartfelt Appeal For Mercy Killing
Sambalpur: A man from Sambalpur town, suffering from brain cancer for the last eight months, has made a heartfelt appeal to the district administration to grant permission for ‘mercy killing’.
Wife of the victim, Hadu Patnaik, met district collector Samarth Verma on Tuesday and handed him over a hand-written petition, requesting him for the same.
“My husband’s condition has affected his life because of the unbearable pain he is going through. He doesn’t want to live anymore as half of his body has decayed. Therefore, he should be allowed euthanasia,” she said.
Hadu, a rickshaw-puller, has desired for euthanasia as he felt that his life is over. He said that his wife is the only earning member and it has become difficult for them to sustain the family.
Meanwhile, the collector has assured to sanction Rs 30,000 from the Red Cross fund for his treatment.
He further informed that the matter has been discussed with VIMSAR director and a doctor from the hospital will be sent to the patient’s house to take stock of his health condition. All possible steps will be taken for his treatment, he added.
