Bhubaneswar: Summer’s here and the perfect desi partner to beat the heat is the good old rabidi lassi. Made with yogurt and rabidi (sweet, condensed milk), this unique Odisha version of the lassi can be found to be topped with khua, shredded coconut, kaju, cherries and more.
Following are the top authentic lassi places in Bhubaneswar that you must visit:
Lingaraj Lassi
Undoubtedly, the most popular lassi point of Bhubaneswar has been operating since 1979. Owned by Harihar Samal, this place is located behind Durga Mandap at Rupali Square. It is often crowded in the evening and on busy days you can see hundreds of glasses lined up like a conveyor belt at a factory. Taste-wise, the lassi has a homogenous blended flavour, unlike others that have crushed ice in them. It opens at 10 am and closes at 10 pm. Did you know your favourite lassi is also available for home delivery?
Cost of full glass: Rs 70
Cost of half glass: Rs 60
Maa Mangala Lassi
This is another legendary lassi outlet in the city. The unique thing about this place is that it is handmade – the yogurt is beaten by hand. “We have been here exactly behind this bus stand (Sriya Square) since 1979,” said Pratibha Patra, owner of the stall. Like most other lassi stalls, it remains open for just 5 months till July.
Maa Bailakhmi Mix Juice Lassi
Jaladhar Jena’s outlet at Unit-1 market building is always busy, be it for lassi or fruit juice. The best seller in summer is Dahi Rabdi Lassi.
Maa Banadurga Lassi and Juice centre
Another lassi point in Unit-1 market building is owned by S R Bahalia, and this one too serves milk shakes in addition to fruit juice and lassi.
Lokanath Lassi and Juice
Located at Market Building, this place serves lassi and juice as well. The best seller is lassi with paneer topping – Dahi Rabidi Chenna Lassi.
