Angul: Forest officials recovered carcass of a leopard from a water body near Mankadchua village under Pallahara block near Rengali reservoir in Angul district on Wednesday.
Locals first spotted the carcass floating in the water body and informed the Forest Department officials.
According to sources, the leopard was bleeding from its mouth. However, the cause behind the big cat’s death is yet to be ascertained.
Amid rumours that the animal might have drowned in the reservoir, some suspect it to be a case of poaching.
The exact reason of the death will be known from the postmortem report, forest officials said, adding that probe is on.
