New Delhi: Around 550 challans were issued by Delhi Traffic Police, amounting to total fines of over Rs 1 crore, on the first day of the ban imposed on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel cars under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) III in the national Capital.
Police also issued challans to 4,855 vehicles imposing a total of Rs 4.8 crore in fines for not having valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) in Delhi on Friday, reported PTI.
Lack of valid pollution certificates attract a fine of Rs 10,000 for motorists. These challans are released from courts.
Those violating bans on private BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles, on the other hand, invited a penalty of Rs 20,000.
Also banned under GRAP III curbs are diesel and petrol inter-state buses from NCR cities to Delhi.
The restrictions were announced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Thursday evening as the city choked under air pollution in ‘severe’ category.
