CBI Nets Murder Accused After 23 Years
Bhubaneswar: After 23 long years, the CBI on Thursday arrested Gajendra Mahanta alias Gajia for his alleged involvement in a sensational abduction and murder case.
He is a native of Ranagundi under Duburi police limits in Jajpur district.
According to available information, a team of the central investigation agency arrested the accused from Balasore railway station around 3 am after conducting a raid on basis of an information regarding his presence in the area.
Gajendra was hiding at Bhiwani in Haryana and was nabbed while traveling to his native place, sources said.
He was declared as a proclaimed offender by a local court on October 16, 1995, due to his non-appearance.
The 1994 case pertaining to the kidnapping and murder of one Sampad Rout in Kaliapani area of Jajpur district is being investigated by the CBI on the direction of the Supreme Court.
