Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seized a huge amount of cash from a luxury car and detained 4 persons in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar during a late-evening raid while a multiple-crore deal was allegedly being struck.
The raid, conducted by a CBI team from Delhi with the help of local police, at around 9 pm allegedly pertains to tender fixing by a government-linked company.
Sources said that two among them were in the car while other two were reportedly dragged out from a nearby hotel. The private firm was allegedly trying to influence officials of Kolkata-based Bridge and Roof Company, (India) Limited, a Central PSU associated with various government projects.
Subsequent search of the car led to recovery of Rs 10 lakh and a large amount of gold ornaments in a bag. Investigations are underway to trace the source and intended recipient of the seized money, the sources added.
Raids are also on at 11 places, including five places in Odisha – zonal offices of the PSU in Bhubaneswar and Chhatrapur.
The CBI officials and local police, however, declined to comment on the raid.
