New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is investigating the bank fraud case against Vijay Mallya and AgustaWestland scam, will probe the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case.
According to senior officials, the CBI is in the process of registering an FIR in the Sushant case following a notification from the Central government to hand over the case to the agency on the recommendation of the Bihar government.
CBI officials said on Thursday that the FIR will soon be uploaded on the agency’s website, according to a Hindustan Times report.
The CBI is in touch with Bihar police, which registered an FIR of abetment to suicide against Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty on his father’s complaint.
Mumbai Police, which had been investigating the case after the actor was found hanging at his Bandra residence on June 14, had not filed an FIR.
The Maharashtra government was against handing over the case to the CBI and also raised issues of jurisdiction, saying that Bihar government or Bihar police had no locus standi in the case since Sushant died in Mumbai.
The case was ultimately handed over to the CBI as more and more people started doubting Mumbai police’s investigation and supported the demand of Sushant’s father and Bihar police for a fair probe.
