CBSE Announces Major Changes In Question Pattern From 2023

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to bring in major reforms in Class X and XII question papers from 2023 to help a student develop his/her cognitive abilities.

“The questions will be based on critical thinking and encourage a student develop a creative bend of mind and innovative abilities. It will be far removed from the rot-based learning process,” CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi said at an event on Tuesday.

He said the objective is to orient the student towards contemporary requirements of the market, keeping in mind the present-day realities.

As part of the reforms process, the CBSE has already announced 20 per cent objective questions and 10 per cent questions based on creative thinking for Class X students from 2020.

Most of the reforms will also be based on the nature of the revision that will be carried out in the national curriculum framework to be constituted by NCERT. The syllabus was last revised in 2005.

The CBSE announcement assumes significance in light of the new national education policy, suggesting a complete overhaul in the examination systems.

More than 10 lakh students appear in the CBSE board exams every year.

The dates for the Class X and Class XII exams in 2020 will be announced soon.
