New Delhi: As a one-time measure in extraordinary situation, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct online/ offline/ innovative tests for students who flunked in Class IX and XI.

This opportunity is being extended keeping in mind COVID-19 related stress, a CBSE notification said on Thursday, adding that this test will subsequently decide their promotion.

“This test can be taken in all subjects in which students have failed. Before holding the test, the schools affiliated to CBSE will give sufficient time to the students to prepare,” it said.

The opportunity will be extended to students irrespective of whether their examinations have been completed and the exam results have been released or their exams have not been completed. This facility is to be extended irrespective of number of subjects and attempts, it further said.

“This opportunity is being extended only in the current year in view of the unprecedented conditions of COVID-19,” the notification clarified.

Earlier, the CBSE had decided to promote these students on the basis of internal assessments of schools conducted so far.

In another development, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ during his interaction with teachers on Thursday said that the evaluation for CBSE answer sheets of Class X and Class XII students will be completed in 50 days.

The remaining Class X and Class XII papers, which were rescheduled due to the coronavirus outbreak, will be conducted from July 1 to July 15, the board had informed earlier.
