Centenarian From Bhubaneswar Beats COVID-19
Bhubaneswar: Amid the COVID-induced gloom, a 100-year-old man treated at the SUM COVID Hospital here recovered from the infection, spreading cheer all around.
Brundaban Samal, a resident of Jharpada in the city, was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition on July 26 after testing positive for COVID. He was rushed to the ICU after doctors treating him found that he had developed pneumonia and had difficulty in breathing.
“It was a challenge to treat such an elderly person who had a cyst in the kidney, but we did what we could under the circumstances,” a doctor said.
Samal was wheeled out of the hospital by his family members on Tuesday.
“We are thankful to the doctors, nurses and paramedics for the care they took of my grandfather,” said Alok Samal, his grandson. The nurses fed him with their own hands, he added.
The hospital has seen several persons in their 90’s defeat the virus but Samal is the first centenarian to do so.
