Bhubaneswar: The Department of Telecommunications has banned the popular file-sharing platform WeTransfer.com citing some grave concerns related to national and public interest.
As per a news report by the Mumbai Mirror, DoT had issued a notice to internet service providers across the country to ban three URLs. While the first two notices asked to ban two specific URLs on the website, the third notice was to ban the entire WeTransfer website.
WeTransfer had gained popularity among millions of users in the country and across the world during the lockdown.
It is still not clear as to why the government banned the website and what exactly did it find objectionable on the page. It is also not known about the data in the links and the messenger app doesn’t have access to the data/files that are sent through the system.
As of now, most of the leading ISPs have blocked the access of WeTransfer for their users.
