Centre Extends Deadline To Link Aadhaar Number With Voter ID; Check The Process

New Dehli: The Centre has extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar Card with Voter ID till March 31, 2024.

According to the official release, people can now complete the process in another year though linking both of them is not mandatory. The earlier deadline was April 1, 2023.

In June 2022, the Ministry of Law and Justice had notified rules for allowing existing voters to use their Aadhaar number to authenticate the entry in the electoral roll. The gazette notification further stated that applications for including names in the electoral roll shall not be denied and entries will not be deleted from the electoral roll if a voter fails to show an Aadhaar number.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had also clarified that the main purpose of motivating people to link their Aadhaar numbers with their Voter IDs was to establish the identity of electors and authenticate entries in the electoral rolls. This would help the ECI to identify if the same person has registered in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency.
