Bhubaneswar: The Centre has issued the letter of intent to KIIT Bhubaneswar for accepting and sending its preparedness for being declared as an Institute of Eminence.
The UGC had last month finalised a list of 16 public and private higher education institutes for being declared as Centre of Excellence. KIIT Bhubaneswar was one among the 16 institutes.
Once KIIT is accorded the status, it will enjoy the following benefits.
1. It will have complete financial autonomy.
2. Academic collaborations with foreign higher educational institutions (in top 500) would be exempted from government approvals.
3. It will have the freedom to recruit faculty from outside India.
4. It will have the freedom to offer courses within a programme as well as to offer degrees in newer areas, including interdisciplinary ones.
5. UGC inspections will not apply to KIIT.
