Bhubaneswar: With an aim to strengthen mobile and internet connectivity to uncovered villages of Odisha, the Centre has decided to install 2,379 new mobile towers covering 3,933 villages of Odisha in 10 aspirational districts.
Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw informed this during a meeting here on Thursday.
The network expansion will be taken up under the “Connecting the un-connected” through 4G mobile network.
The towers will be link 7,287 unconnected villages across 44 aspirational districts of India covering five states Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Odisha.
As many as 3,933 un-connected villages of Odisha belong to 10 aspirational districts of Balangir, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Rayagada, informed the Minister.
In addition to the above scheme, 483 more mobile towers are being installed at an estimated cost of Rs 421.66 crore in nine districts of
Odisha under LWE Project Phase-II which is likely to be completed by March 2023, he added.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, MP Sangeeta Kumari Singhdeo attended the event on virtual mode.
