Bhubaneswar: The Central government will release a special coin featuring Odisha’s former Chief Minister Harekrushna Mahtab on his 125th birth anniversary.
Revealing this to media persons on Tuesday, the former chief minister’s son and Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab said Union Minister of Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal informed about the Centre’s decision at a function organised on the occasion of Swadhinata Sangrami Divas on the day.
The MP said the Ministry of Finance has approved the proposal of the Culture Ministry to mint a special coin in memory of the legendary leader from Odisha. The coin having denomination value of Rs 100 has already been minted, he added.
He further said the coin will be released before the end of the celebration of the 125th birth anniversary of Mahtab.
Mahtab, who is regarded as the architect of modern Odisha, was elected as the state’s first Chief Minister from 1946 to 1950 and again from 1956 to 1960.
