New Delhi: The supply of Remdesivir — a key drug in treating COVID-19 — is much more than the demand in the country at present, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya said on Saturday.
The minister also informed that the government has ramped up the production of Remdesivir by 10 times. As of Saturday, production was 33,000 vials per day against 33,000 vials per day on April 11.
The government has also increased the number of plants producing Remdesivir from 20 to 60 within a month.
Given this scenario, the government will discontinue the central allocation of Remdesivir to states, Mandaviya said.
The government has also decided to procure 50 lakh vials of Remdesivir to maintain as strategic stock for the emergency requirement, he added.
