Chardham Yatra Suspended Amid Heavy Rains & Landslides
Dehradun: Torrential rains and landslides ravaged Uttarakhand on Monday, destroying buildings and blocking national highways to Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri shrines.
A landslide hit a camp at Lincholi near Kedarnath, killing one person, according to Rudraprayag district disaster management officials.
Consequently, the Chardham Yatra – pilgrimage to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath — was on Monday suspended for two days.
The decision was taken after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a high-level meeting with Cabinet colleagues and senior officials to review the situation in the Himalayan state.
Among the damages caused by nature’s fury was the collapse of a private defence training academy on the outskirts of Dehradun.
