The Family Man 2 is a huge hit on Amazon Prime. Besides admiring Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni, viewers are going gaga over Chellam Sir – a character with very little screen time but one who has all the answers.
Netizens have posted numerous comments and memes on the character played by Uday Mahesh. Bhubaneswar’s Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) also shared a funny post the other day: “Even Chellam Sir knows MoBus Bus is always at your service.”
Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, makers of the web series, have however been surprised to see Chellam Sir becoming a national sensation.
“That’s one of the things that took us by surprise. There is so much in the show, so many characters to take away… We were pleasantly surprised that suddenly everyone is talking about Chellam Sir. We were like ‘Wait a minute, what happened here’?” Krishna DK told Bollywood Hungama.
Raj Nidimoru felt the Chellam Sir character was a big risk, in a grounded show.
“Think about it, Srikanth Tiwari would have solved it even without Chellam… It was a big risk, in a grounded show,” said Raj.
Chellam Sir, however, is co-writer Suman Kumar’s favourite character too.
“He’s been saying, ‘We need to do this guy who knows everything.’ Those are the characters you see in movies. He is a filmy character and it’s a grounded show. The idea was to break the groundedness, deliberately… Even he doesn’t look so filmy or cool. If he had played a cameo, like a really big star, you could’ve felt it. It would have been very very jarring. It wouldn’t have worked at all,” said Raj.
