Mumbai: Celebrated writer Chetan Bhagat has plunged into the raging nepotism debate by becoming vocal about how filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra had driven him close to suicide.
Slamming the filmmaker, Chetan stated that the 2009s blockbuster film ‘3 Idiots’ was based on his book ‘Five Point Someone’, but when the film became a blockbuster, Vidhu denied giving him any credits for it.
Targetting Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s wife, film critic Anupama Chopra, Chetan wrote, “Ma’am, when your husband publicly bullied me, shamelessly collected best story awards, tried denying me credit for my story and drove me close to suicide, and you just watched, where was your discourse?”

Chetan’s post was in response to Anupama’s reaction to one of his earlier tweets in which he had asked film critics to refrain from writing bad reviews about Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film ‘Dil Bechara’.
Sushant's last film releases this week. I want to tell the snob and elitist critics right now, write sensibly. Don't act oversmart. Don't write rubbish. Be fair and sensible. Don't try your dirty tricks. You have ruined enough lives. Now stop. We'll be watching.

To this, Anupama had posted, “Each time you think the discourse can’t get lower, it does.”
