Bhubaneswar: The five-day Chilika Shelduck Carnival, which has always been a major attraction for people of Odisha and those staying outside the state, will begin this weekend.
The carnival will bring myriad folk dance and art forms together and will commence on December 10 at the ODI ART Centre at Barkul. The theme for this year is ‘Transdisciplinary Art for Transmission’.
The ODI ART Centre is a unique art complex, nestled on the bank of Chilika. Spreading over five acres, the centre aims at showcasing rich folk and tribal art heritage.
The registration will be done on the first day around 2.30 pm at the conference hall. ‘Chilika Samman for Creative Excellence’ will be inaugurated at 4.30 pm in the presence of Minister of Tourism and Culture Ashwini Kumar Patra as the chief guest, Designer, Art Curator and Scenographer Padma awardee Rajeev Sethi as the guest of honour, and Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) chairman Lenin Mohanty at the open-air amphitheatre of the centre.
Five stage performances will be done on the first day (6.30 pm -9 pm):
- Ravanachhaya by Gouranga Dash (30 min)
- Classical dance by Kaniska Das (20 min)
- Singing performance by Debashis Mohapatra (20 min)
- Music performance by Giridhari Gomango (30 min)
- Performance by Rajsthani folk troupe
Day-2
- A boating session in Chilika and migratory bird watching at Mangalajodi (6.30 am- 9.30 am)
- A technical session of discussion on ‘Art of Words’ by Giridhar Gomango, Padma awardee Rajeev Sethi, Manoranjan Byapari, Abhay Dash (10.30 am- 12 noon)
- Another technical session of discussion on ‘Transdisciplinary Artists Rendezvous’ by Byungmo Chung, Shubh Prasanna Bhattacharya, Park Leon, Padma Bhusan Sudarshan Sahu, actor Prashant Nanda (12.30 pm – 2 pm)
- A museum gallery visit Jitu Mishra (5 pm – 6 pm)
- Valedictory session, Transdisciplinary and traditional arts performance (6.30 pm – 9 pm)
Day-3
- A boating session in Chilika to Kalijai temple (7 am- 9 am)
- Traditional Kirtan by Mr Radhe Panda, Sonepur troupe (10 am to 1 pm)
- Traditional music by Simanchala Padhi (2.30 pm to 4.15 pm)
- Traditional music performance by Omkar Lenka Jatra Sangeet (4.30 pm- 5 pm)
- Transdisciplinary and Traditional Arts Performance (3 pm to 9 pm)
Day-4
- The Children’s programme painting, quiz, talent show by Sushant Dash and Bagha Nata by Taksha Shila (11 am to 3 pm)
- Prahlad Natak Music by Kahnu Sarangi, Village ladies programme (2.30 pm to 6 pm)

Day-5
