New Delhi: A chilling video has now emerged, showing Delhi blast mastermind Umar Nabi speaking about suicide bombing and its apparent relevance in Islam.
Nabi, a 28-year-old doctor from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, was driving the Hyundai i20 car that blew up near Delhi’s Red Fort on the evening of November 10. The death toll of the blast has now gone up to 15. Several others are still in hospital.
Nabi has emerged as the most radicalised and key operative in the network spanning Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The Delhi blast occurred hours after security agencies busted a ‘white-collar terror module’ in Haryana’s Faridabad, leading to the recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives and the arrest of three doctors, including a woman, who is suspected to be key operative of Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
In the video, Nabi can be heard talking about the “misunderstood concept of suicide bombing”. It was apparently recorded before the blast.
“One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of what has been labelled as suicide bombing. It is a martyrdom operation… known in Islam. Now, there are multiple contradictions; there are multiple arguments that have been brought against it,” the ‘suicide bomber’ can be heard saying in the video.
A “martyrdom” operation is one in which a person presumes that he is going to die at a particular place and time, he claims.
Apart from those killed in Delhi, nine others died after explosives seized from Faridabad went off when being examined at the Nowgam police station in Kashmir.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a close aide of Nabi on Monday. The man was allegedly providing technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets.
Jasir Bilal Wani, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag, has been described by the NIA as an “active co-conspirator” of Nabi. The agency told a Delhi court that another key accused Amir Rashid Ali allegedly arranged a safe house and provided logistical support to the bomber.
Ali was arrested by the NIA on Sunday. It was in his name that the explosive-laden i20 involved in the blast was registered.
The Delhi blast toll rose to 15 after three more persons died at the LNJP Hospital over the last few days. While a person, identified as Bilal, died on Thursday, two others succumbed to their injuries on Monday. They have been identified as as Lukmaan (50) and Vinay Pathak (50).
