New Delhi: After almost 11 months of border conflict, China backed the BRICS meet to be hosted by India in 2021 and said that it’s willing to work with India and other member states for more cooperation in various fields.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to visit India for the summit in the second half of 2021, if the COVID situation improves in the next few months.
“China supports India’s hosting of this year’s BRICS conference, and is willing to work with India and other Brics countries to continue to strengthen communication and cooperation in various fields, consolidate the “three-wheel drive” cooperation framework of economics, politics, and humanities,” a spokesperson Wang Wenbin was quoted as saying by The Times of India. Wenbin was responding to queries on whether the border situation will affect the summit.
India had earlier assumed the chairmanship of BRICS for 2021 and will host this year’s summit. Foreign minister S Jaishankar launched India’s BRICS 2021 website at the BRICS secretariat in Sushma Swaraj Bhawan here on February 19.
