Bhubaneswar: A Chinese sailor of MV Lucky Dragon fell into the sea while the ship was docked at Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT) in Odisha on Friday morning.
According to initial reports, the Chinese sailor, identified as Jang Tai, accidentally fell into the water while lowering the pilot ladder he along with other crew members as the vessel was preparing to depart after unloading at PICT. The ship had anchored at the berth on August 27 to unload pig iron from the US.
A fellow crew member from Bangladesh jumped into the sea to rescue him but in vain.
While Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have rescued the Bangladeshi sailor, a comprehensive search, involving divers, patrol boats, and an Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team from Jagatsinghpur, has been initiated to trace the Chinese crew member.
“The rescued sailor is now undergoing treatment in the port hospital. His condition is stable. We informed the state government about the disappearance of a Chinese national in the sea,” said additional SP (Paradip), Smruti Ranjan Kar.
